Meet our Director
Jim Edwards is the director and curator of the Contemporary Art Gallery of 麻豆视频, as well as an associate professor in HCU鈥檚 Art Department.聽Edwards graduated with BFA and MFA degrees from the San Francisco Art Institute and is a Rockefeller Fellow in Museum Education and Community Studies from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Considered an authority on modern and contemporary art in the American West, Edwards has curated and directed museums and galleries for more than聽35 years, working at various museums, including the , Juneau; , Boise, Idaho; , Corpus Christi, Victoria Regional Museums, Victoria, Texas; , San Antonio, Texas; Weil Gallery at Texas A&M University @ Corpus Christi; Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University, and the , Salt Lake City Utah.
Edwards’聽major exhibitions include “About Face for the Art Museum of South Texas,” 1984; “Artists Responses to Architecture,” for the Nave Museum, Victoria, Texas, 1986;聽 “Evidence: Contemporary Narrative Painters of the Southwest,” 1989, “The Poetic Object,” 1988, and “The Perfect World in Contemporary Art,”聽 1991, for the San Antonio Museum of Art, “Committed to Abstraction: Ten in Texas,” for the Austin Museum of Art, Austin, Texas, 1997; and “The Daily News,” 2005 and “SF Recycled,” 2007 for the Salt Lake Art Center. He聽curated two full retrospective exhibitions for the Fine Arts Museums of New Mexico, Santa Fe; “Doris Cross: Rework,” 1993 and “Sam Scott: An American Voice,” 1996. He co-curated, with David Brauer, the exhibition “Pop Art: U.S./U.K. Connections,” 1956-1966 at Houston鈥檚 in 2001. Additionally, Edwards has an extensive record of publishing, including essays in exhibition books and catalogues for museums and galleries throughout the United States. He is married to Victoria Mikulewicz , his wife of聽43 years, and they have three grown daughters, Kelcey, Alicia and Celeste.
