Evening of Opera Classics and Spirituals

Join us for an extraordinary evening of musical brilliance at our highly anticipated HCU Faculty and Alumni recital on Friday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the beautiful Belin Chapel.

This exceptional showcase features Fidel Angel Romero (’17), Kevin Punnackal (’19), Elizabeth de Trejo, and David Kirkwood in a captivating performance spanning the emotional depths of spirituals and the dramatic heights of beloved opera aria favorites. The program includes a moving spiritual set by Damian Sneed performed by Angel Romero, the majestic aria from Handel’s “Judas Maccabaeus,” and Verdi’s iconic “La donna 猫 mobile” also performed by Romero. Audiences will additionally be transported through selections from Bizet’s “Carmen” (performed by Punnackal) and Puccini’s timeless “La Boh猫me” (performed by Punnackal and de Trejo) with Puccini’s magnificent “Nessun dorma” from “Turandot” closing the recital.

Each performer brings their unique artistry and technical mastery to these classic pieces, creating fresh interpretations that honor tradition while offering something distinctly new. The intimate setting of Belin Chapel provides the perfect acoustic environment to experience these powerful voices in their full glory.
