Amanda Crandell, RN Shares Her Experience as a 麻豆视频 MSN-FNP Student
Students in the 麻豆视频 MSN- FNP program enjoy earning a highly respected degree at a time and financial cost they can handle.
I鈥檓 grateful for being here, it鈥檚 a great opportunity to share my story a little bit. I had always planned on going back to school to be an鈥疦P, but I hadn鈥檛 necessarily planned on doing it so soon.
I have a big medical background and I鈥檝e worked in the medical field for a long time, but I just graduated from University of Houston from their accelerated program鈥痠n 2016, so as far as nursing experience goes, I didn鈥檛 have a lot. But I got a job at East Houston in the ER and one day there was an education fair that they held at鈥疕CN鈥疕ealth, and鈥疘 thought,鈥痺ell鈥疘鈥檒l go check it out鈥痓ecause I knew the University of Houston was going to be there and I wanted to see my professors and say hello to my professors. Well in the ER you know how crazy it can get and I was so busy and about 2:50 I looked at the clock and said I got to鈥痝o.
So,聽I handed my patients to someone else for 10 minutes, and I ran down there,聽and University of Houston had already packed up and left. But there were other people there,鈥痵o I just decided to鈥痩ook鈥痑round and see what was there, and 麻豆视频 was there.
I live right down the street from 麻豆视频.鈥疘 take my kids walking in the beautiful campus and I鈥檝e always been really impressed. But,鈥痮ne of my impressions about 麻豆视频,鈥痑s well,鈥痺as that they were expensive,鈥痓ecause it鈥檚鈥痑 private school. And鈥痽ou know,鈥疘鈥檓 working, I have three little kids, my husband has his own business and it鈥檚 not like I can afford to take a huge student loan or something. So,鈥痺hen I was talking to the representative from HCU she says,鈥痮h,鈥痽es,鈥痺e do have an鈥疦P program.鈥疻e鈥檙e just starting it and she said,鈥痮h,鈥痑nd it鈥檚 $16,000 for the whole program. And I鈥痶hought,鈥痳eally?鈥疘 had no idea.
So,鈥疘 put my name on the list to be contacted for information and鈥疛oan Wolff鈥痗alled within days, and she found out my situation and she said,鈥痺ould you mind sending me鈥痑 resume?鈥疭he made the process very easy.
She called me in June or maybe it was the end of June, beginning of July, and she asked if I wanted to start in August. And I said, I don鈥檛 think I can do it. And she said, what about January? I said yes, maybe January. So, I went home and talked to my husband. I said, I鈥檝e always wanted鈥痶o go back to school and this is my goal, this is my direction and I have an opportunity now, what do you think? He said go for it. So, that鈥檚 what I鈥檝e been doing since January.
An MSN-FNP Program for Busy Adults
Some of the things that make this program doable for me:
I really love the eight-week courses. We have eight weeks. We have one course at a time so I can focus. I can kind of compartmentalize my life and focus: this is school, this is work, this is home/family. And if I had two or three鈥痗ourses鈥疘 was doing at the same time it would very difficult to do. So, I really appreciate that it鈥檚 one course at a time with eight weeks. I can focus. I can pour my heart into health assessment and then once it鈥檚 done it鈥檚 done. I don鈥檛 have to think about health assessment, and nursing theory, and statistics all at the same time, because that would just be too much. That鈥檚 one thing that makes it鈥痳eally do-able.
Another one is that it鈥檚 online 鈥 you can make it according to your own schedule. I could do my homework at three o鈥檆lock in the morning after everything else and so it鈥檚 very flexible to my schedule 鈥 which is鈥痳eally important鈥痠f you鈥檙e聽a聽nurse.
Another thing that I really like about the program is exactly what Chelsea said. She said it鈥檚 very professional, but at the same time it鈥檚 very personal. And I felt that from all the professors. I felt that from Denise. I felt that from everyone that I鈥檝e talked to 鈥 that it鈥檚 a very professional, very well-developed school,鈥痑nd well-developed program. However, they know who you are,鈥痑nd they care about you personally.鈥疉nd they listen to your stories,鈥痑nd they know that your family is going through this,鈥痵o they work with you.鈥疉nd that鈥檚 another reason why I feel I can鈥痓e鈥痵uccessful in this program.
Another thing that I wanted to mention that I really appreciate about this school, is that it has a name.鈥疕CU is well known, so when I go out鈥-鈥痑nd I鈥檝e gone out鈥-鈥痶o try to find preceptors to accept me to do some鈥痗linical鈥痺ork at their practices and鈥痶hey say,鈥痮h,鈥疕CU?鈥痀es.鈥痀ou鈥檙e鈥痝oing鈥痶o HCU?鈥疉nd that name carries a lot.鈥疊ut, if I was going to some XYZ nursing online school, that wouldn鈥檛 be the same.鈥疘t just wouldn鈥檛 be the same and it would be a lot more difficult to get that recognition right in the door. As soon as they see HCU, they鈥檙e like, 鈥淥h! You鈥檙e an HCU student!鈥 And鈥痵o,鈥疘 really appreciate having that as part of it too.
So again,鈥疘鈥檓 just鈥痳eally grateful鈥痶o have the opportunity鈥痶o share鈥痬y experience.鈥疘t鈥檚 been a very positive experience.鈥疉nd I understand,鈥痶oo,鈥痶hat鈥痠t is the very beginning of a program so they鈥檙e working and its flexible still, trying to find the right way that do things and I鈥檓 glad to be a part of that process.
